Detroit files for bankruptcy, stage set for court fight
DETROIT (Reuters) - Detroit filed the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history on Thursday, setting the stage for a costly court battle with creditors and opening a new chapter in the long struggle to revive the city that was the cradle of the American auto industry.
Policeman releases manhunt photos of accused Boston bomber
(Reuters) - A U.S. policeman said he released photographs of accused Boston marathon bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, including one with a red dot of a sniper rifle's laser sight on his forehead, to counter a "fluffed and buffed" image of him on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
At least six arrested in California Zimmerman verdict protest
(Reuters) - Police arrested at least six people in California late on Thursday after being hit by rocks and bottles at a protest over the acquittal of neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, news reports said.

Chapter 9 bankruptcy puts Detroit in driver's seat of its restructuring
(Reuters) - Detroit on Thursday filed the largest-ever municipal bankruptcy in the United States, with an estimated $18.5 billion in debt. Kevyn Orr, the city's emergency manager, referred to Chapter 9 - the bankruptcy statute governing municipal filings - as a "powerful" tool to right Detroit's ship.
