Description:

Nearly 600 workers of a garment factory in India's southern Bangalore city fell ill and were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning following a New Year's party, reported on Saturday. The workers of Page Industries were rushed to four hospitals in the city's Bommasandra industrial area Friday, after they complained of vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness and nausea. By Saturday, more than 500 patients had been discharged but local newspapers reported that several were still returning with complaints of diarrhoea and vomiting. Doctors at the hospitals said that up to 20 per cent of the workers displayed symptoms of gastroenteritis, while others had "typical panic symptoms." The state health department launched an inquiry and approached the local police to file a complaint against the food caterer. Page Industries is an exclusive licensee of Jockey International Inc, a US-based manufacturer of underwear and sleepwear.
