Event: Snow Storm
Location: China Capital City Beijing

Situation:

A massive snowstorm has hit Beijing, bringing the Chinese capital to a virtual standstill. The extreme weather has resulted in many of the city’s roads being closed and, with most people choosing to stay indoors to avoid the chilly conditions, there was an unusual quiet to the capital’s streets. Thousands of passengers have also been left stranded at Beijing’s main international airport. State media says more than 80 per cent of flights have either been cancelled or delayed. Freezing temperatures are expected to touch -14 Celsius today, but could drop further to a nerve jangling -20. Some 200 snow-clearing trucks have been mobilised to keep traffic moving. However the wintry weather is forecast to continue well into this week.
