Description:

Many people are sick with measles. We register some 100 people a day. For now the focus is on several regions – Sliven, Yambol, Varna, Stara Zagora and Kazanlak – but gradually we will reach other regions too, Dr. Angel Kunchev, Director of Infectious Diseases Control Directorate at the Healthcare Ministry. He says 10 people died since the start of the outbreak. “Measles is a serious disease, but it results in a death in very small number of cases. Most of these children are in a very bad social condition. Two of the three children who died recently were living in a village close to the city of Sliven and did not see a doctor. They died at home. One of them was ill with children’s cerebral paralysis and other complicating diseases,” said Kunchev.
