Description: About 12 people are missing in a shipwreck off southern Chile, the Carabineros militarized police force said. The exact number of people aboard the vessel when it went down is not known, officials said. The boat’s occupants, who participated in a religious festival in Carelmapu, a town in the Los Lagos region, were sailing to Ancud. The vessel sank off Sebastiana Island, located some 1,150 kilometers (715 miles) south of Santiago, Chilean media reported. Initial reports said the boat sailed without permission amid torrential rains and strong winds. The bad weather forced the navy to order ships sent to look for the missing boat back to port.
