Description:

Five children have died in flooding caused by torrential rains across western and central Mexico, authorities said Thursday. Three siblings ranging in age from 2 to 8 were killed when a rain-swollen stream swept away their home in the western state of Michoacan, emergency services officials told Efe, adding that the children’s bodies were recovered. In the central state of Guanajuato, two boys, ages 12 and 14, died while trying to cross the Tejavana River on a horse as the swiftly rising current knocked down the mare and sent the youngsters hurtling into the water. Authorities in Mexico City reported toppled trees and flooded streets, especially in poor neighborhoods plagued with poor drainage.
