Description: Twelve people were confirmed dead while 15 others were hurt following a collision between a trailer truck and a passenger jeepney along the national highway in Piat town, Cagayan province early Monday, police said. In an initial report, Cagayan Region police head Chief Superintendent Roberto Damian said the truck’s driver lost control of the vehicle after the truck’s tire blew up. The truck, bound for Cagayan Robinson Sugar Milling Corporation in Piat, then smashed into an oncoming jeepney bound for Tuguegarao City from Santo Niño town. The incident occurred about 4:30 a.m.in Villa Rey village in Piat town, Damian said. All fatalities were from the jeepney. The driver of the jeepney (BVM-337) was identified as one Noli Nogeras while the truck (TXU-276) was driven by a certain Joey Salvador, a resident of Isabela province. As of posting time, it was unclear whether those injured, who were being treated at the Saint Paul’s Hospital in Tuguegarao City, included passengers of the truck.
