On 2010-02-09 at 04:11:45 [UTC]

Event: Biological Hazard
Location: USA State of Hawaii Hanauma Bay

Situation:

For the second straight day, Hanauma Bay is closed today because of an influx of box jellyfish. City officials said that more than 120 box jellyfish were found on the shore line of Hanauma Bay. Today is the second day of an anticipated four-day box jellyfish influx, officials said. Hanauma Bay is closed on Tuesdays. Yesterday, box jellyfish were also found on the shores of Waikiki, Ala Moana, and Yokohama, where warning signs are posted again today. Officials with the city's Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services division said there is a high probability that people entering these waters will be stung. Beachgoers should go to other sites and stay out of the water in the affected areas. Anyone who is stung should flush the affected area with copious amounts of white vinegar and use heat or cold for pain, said officials who also advice immediate medical attention if a sting-victim experiences breathing difficulty.
