Situation Update No. 1 On 2010-02-03 at 08:26:17 [UTC] Event: Terror Attack Location: Australia State of Northern Territory TIO (Territory Insurance Office) Darwin Number of Injured: 15 person(s) Situation: Fifteen people were admitted to hospital in the northern Australian city of Darwin today after an explosion at an insurance office, officials said. One person is in custody and the major crimes unit is probing the blast at the Territory Insurance Office, Northern Territory police said in an e-mailed statement. Four people were in a serious though stable condition after being treated for burns and respiratory problems caused by smoke inhalation, Kasey Brunt, a spokeswoman for Royal Darwin Hospital, said in a telephone interview. The rest were stable and expected to be discharged later today, Brunt said. Bystanders helped pull injured people from the office after a man wheeled a shopping trolley containing cans of gasoline and firecrackers inside and ignited it, the Age newspaper reported. The man gave himself up to police and is being questioned by detectives, the newspaper reported, citing Commander Rob Kendrick. A police officer was among the injured, it said.
