Event: Extreme Weather
Location: Australia State of New South Wales Hillsdale Sydney

Situation:

Wild weather has wreaked havoc along the coast of New South Wales, with Sydney Airport forced to shut down at the height of the storm. The storm left a path of destruction as it passed down the east of NSW from the central coast to the Illawarra. An apartment block in Sydney was evacuated after it was extensively damaged by lightning and Sydney airport closed down for half an hour. On Friday afternoon 6,000 homes and businesses were left powerless for hours on the central coast. SES spokesman Robbie Landon says there has been no report of injury, but crews have been kept busy. "With the new severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flooding, we're now monitoring a large number of requests for assistance in and around the northern Wollongong," he said. The majority of calls are for fallen trees and leaking roofs and residents are being advised not to enter flood waters.
