Event: Epidemic Hazard
Location: Australia State of Northern Territory Darwin

Situation:

The Health Department last night urged Territorians to be alert for measles after confirmation of a second case. It said a person was infectious while travelling from Adelaide to Darwin on Jetstar flight JQ670 on February 8. The alert said while those seated near the passenger were traced and offered treatment, there was a "small risk" that others at the airport had been exposed. Another infectious person passed through Darwin Airport late last month. They were travelling on a Jetstar flight from Ho Chi Minh City on January 26. The Health Department urges Territorians who suspect they have contracted the very contagious viral illness, and plan on visiting a doctor, to phone ahead to allow for preparations for the prevention of it spreading to other patients. Typical symptoms are fever, cough, runny nose and sore eyes, followed by a red blotchy rash appearing three to four days later. The department is urging anyone who may have been exposed and who is experiencing these symptoms to seek advice from their GP or the Centre for Disease Control.
