2010-02-14 07:38:01 - Epidemic Hazard - USA EDIS CODE: EH-20100214-24926-USA Date & Time: 2010-02-14 07:38:01 [UTC] Area: USA, State of Florida, , Bunnel Number of Infected person(s): 15 Not confirmed information! Description: About 15 people came to Florida Hospital Flagler on Saturday complaining of nausea and vomiting, which prompted the Flagler County Health Department to begin investigating whether the cases are related. Health Department officials have begun taking food histories of the patients to see if they have anything in common or if a food-borne virus can be ruled out, Patrick Johnson, administrator at the Health Department, said Saturday night. Sara Smith, who has two children at Rymfire Elementary School in Palm Coast, said both of her children and her niece - who also attends the school - are very sick. "So far, we don't know anyone with children at the school who aren't sick," she said. "My son packs a lunch, but my daughter likes to buy, and of parents we've talked to, all the kids seem to have eaten different things." Smith isn't ruling out the water or something else at the school, though, because several children she knows who live in the same area but attend either Bunnell Elementary or Belle Terre Elementary aren't sick. Johnson said it's too soon to draw conclusions. "We have adults who are sick too," he said. "It could be an oral virus. It could be bacteria. We don't know what it is; we don't know the source and we don't know if it's associated with the school."
