Iran defies sanctions as West plans harsher measures

UNITED NATIONS/LONDON (Reuters) - Britain led calls on Thursday for harsher penalties to be imposed on Iran, as Tehran defied a compromise U.N. sanctions resolution to punish it for its suspected nuclear weapons programme.

OSH, Kyrgyzstan (Reuters) - At least 23 people were killed on Friday when ethnic conflict flared in Kyrgyzstan's second-largest city Osh, the worst outbreak of violence in the Central Asian state since the president was overthrown in April.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide car bomb hit a joint U.S.-Iraqi military patrol in eastern Iraq on Friday, killing two U.S. soldiers and at least three Iraqis as the U.S. prepares to end combat operations.
