Officers on the scene reported the building had been struck by lightning and 10 people had to be evacuated. Fire crews were called to a home on Osborne Parade, Warilla, at about 3.40pm (AEDT) after it was hit, causing extensive damage to the roof. The SES was called to the scene to provide tarpaulins for the roof. The third house, at Berkeley Road, Gwynneville, suffered no apparent damage when it was struck. Heavy rainfall caused delays on the South Coast rail line, a RailCorp spokesman said. The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for many parts of NSW for Friday afternoon.
