Description: Some 5, 652 cases of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) among children under age 5 have been registered in Puno until Feb. 2 due to the rains, reported local health authorities. Puno Regional Directorate reported that the number of pneumonia cases increased from 24 in the last report to 49, but that the number of deceases has not grown; in addition, the number of acute diarrheic diseases has reached 1,031 cases. These increasing numbers are due to the sudden climate changes and the constant presence of rain, hail and snow in Puno, especially in the province of San Roman, Melgar and Huancané.
