In California, USA, on Saturday, 13 people who were witnessing one of the most important surf competitions, were wounded, some seriously, when giant wave hit the breakwater where they were standing. It was in Maverick’s Beach surf contest, where two mountains of water of over six feet high smashed against the site were dozens of spectators were watching the competition. The waves destroyed several platforms and scaffolding and swept away dozens of people. Emergency workers reported that “several spectators suffered broken bones and injuries of varying degrees.” After the incident, part of the beach was evacuated and people wasn’t allowed to be in the area again. But also hundreds of people stayed to watch how the South African Chris Bertish was awarded with the 50 thousand-dollar first prize at the event. Scott Jalbert, fire chief in California, said that: “His department sent a team to the area to clear the beach due to the danger of the waves. However, they came too late. “ He further stated that “No one was dragged into the sea, but toward the coast, which is full of rocks. And that “forces of nature are difficult to predict.”
