Not confirmed information! Description: A schoolgirl was killed when her school building was collapsed after a hailstorm hit it in Imphal East district around 2.40 pm today. More than 30 other students of the private-run GT Memorial Academy located at Arapti village Mayai Leikai were injured in the incident. The deceased has been identified as Konsam Roshini (9), daughter of Sanathoi of Arapti Mayai Leikai. The other injured students have been discharged from a nearby primary health centre after giving treatment, sources reaching here said. According to the reports, the school building which was made up of bamboo and timber collapsed when the hailstorm struck the roof of the school while the children were attending their normal classes. There are also reports of hundreds of habitations in Sora, Wabagai, Kakching, Phoubakchao villages in Thoubal district and Imphal West district being destroyed by the thunderstorm accompanied by high-velocity wind which lashed various parts of the States four valley and five hill districts. Today’sincident rendered hundreds of villagers homeless in Sora alone. Mention may be made here that many houses and school buildings in Ukhrul, Chandel and Churachandpur districts were also damaged when the pre-monsoon rains accompanied by thunderstorm and hailstorm hit the State since the last three days. In an unrelated incident, a salesman of an electronics store in Imphal, Salam James, 35, of Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai, was hurt when unidentified miscreants, suspected to be underground activists, attacked the shop by exploding a hand grenade today. The incident took place at a shop called Dinesh Electronics located near Hotel Anand Continental at the busy Thangal Bazar in the heart of Imphal town around 1.40 pm. Police suspects hands of an armed group operating in and around the town in the incident in connection with an extortion demand. However, the shop authority denied any extortion note from any underground outfit.
