NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stock index futures were lower on Monday after a Swiss plan to tighten banking rules raised fears of smaller bank profits ahead of a new round of U.S. data.

Sanofi launches hostile $18.5 billion bid for Genzyme

PARIS (Reuters) - French drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis launched a hostile bid for Genzyme at $69 per share on Monday, taking its $18.5 billion offer direct to shareholders after Genzyme management refused to negotiate.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Visa Inc and MasterCard Inc are close to settling a Justice Department antitrust probe over credit card acceptance rules, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the negotiations.

Verizon Wireless to pay refunds for billing errors
