Description:

Public facilities and at least 100 residential houses have been damaged after a flash flood hit Sago Halaban subdistrict in Limapuluh Kota regency, West Sumatra. “Most likely there were no casualties. Three people were swept away by mudslides, but they survived,” provincial disaster mitigation coordinator Ade Edward said on Tuesday. The waters of the flood, which occurred late Monday afternoon, were mixed with volcanic material from Mount Sago. Ade said that search and rescue teams, with help from the local military and police, have been deployed in the affected area. The local administration has set up temporary tents and is providing food for the displaced residents. Last week, a mudslide originating from two rivers on Mount Talang hit Sungai Janiah village in Solok regency, just south of Limapuluh Kota regency, leaving 1,500 residents isolated. The disaster, known locally as galodo, left bridges permanently damaged, swept away eight riverside houses, destroyed hundreds of hectares of farmland and brought down electricity poles.
