2010-03-24 13:11:47 - Power Outage - Philippines EDIS CODE: PW-20100324-25439-PHL Date & Time: 2010-03-24 13:11:47 [UTC] Area: Philippines, Province of Benguet, , Baguio City Damage level: Heavy (Level 3) Affected person(s): 11000 Not confirmed information! Description: Schools suspended graduation rehearsals on Wednesday when a day-long blackout engulfed the summer capital and nearby Benguet. The loud hum of private generators disrupted some grade school activities in downtown Baguio, compelling teachers to suspend the rehearsals. The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) switched off power at 7 a.m. for preventive maintenance checks and to upgrade a transformer serving the greater Baguio area. Power was scheduled to return at 6 p.m. Mankayan and Atok towns in Benguet also reported blackouts, although Camp John Hay and the outskirt barangay (villages) near the boundary of Itogon and Tuba towns, also in Benguet, remained lighted. The lines powering sections of Camp John Hay are distinct from the NGCP service lines to Baguio and Benguet, which required mandatory checkups, according to Gerardo Verzosa, general manager of the Benguet Electric Cooperative.
