Situation:

Heatwave conditions prevailed in parts of Orissa with the mercury hovering around 40 degrees Celsius in several parts amidst reports of three sunstroke deaths. Meanwhile, the Met office has forecast heatwave for the next 24 hours. Official sources said that they had received reports of two sunstroke deaths in Cuttack while one person died in Khurda. These reports were being confirmed, they said. The day temperature in almost all the places was three to four degrees Celsius above the normal. At least a dozen towns in the State have been recording around 40 degree C in the last three days while humidity was 95 per cent in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. While Baripada recorded the highest temperature of 41.9 C, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Bhawanipatna in the western region sizzled at 41.2, 41.2 and 41 degrees C respectively. Similarly, Malkangiri in the south recorded 40.5 C while centrally-located Talcher at 41.6 C and Angul at 40.1 C were also on boil. The Capital city experienced 39.3 degrees C while the temperature at Cuttack was 38.5.
