Situation Update No. 1 On 2010-03-25 at 10:13:37 [UTC] Event: Vehicle Incident Location: United Kingdom Northern Ireland George Best Belfast City Airport Belfast Situation: An emergency alert at George Best Belfast City Airport has ended and operations are returning to normal. Fire appliances and ambulances raced to the runway in east Belfast after the alert was raised at about 0735 GMT. A spokesman for the airport said the Flybe flight bound for Glasgow had just taken off when the pilot experienced technical problems. The plane returned safely. No-one was injured. All 61 passengers and four crew walked off the plane safely. The plane has now been towed away. Eyewitnesses claimed smoke was seen coming from one of the plane's engines. However, a spokesman for Flybe said there was no smoke. In a statement, the airline said a technical problem was spotted immediately after take-off and the plane returned to the airport. Engineers are currently assessing the aircraft, the statement said. Flybe apologised for any inconvenience. | | | | |
