Situation Update No. 1 On 2010-03-24 at 08:47:33 [UTC] Event: Flash Flood Location: Indonesia Limapuluh Kota regency West Sumatra Sago Halaban Number of Evacuated: 1500 person(s) Situation: Forty houses, a school and a market were damaged by flash floods in Lurah Sago Halaban district in Limapuluh Kota regency late Monday. No casualties were reported. Ade Edward, coordinator of the province's natural disaster operational management center, said Tuesday three people were swept away by the mud but had survived. He said the flash flood came from mud on Mount Sago's peak located in Bukit Barisan mountain range. The 2,271-meter mountain last erupted a century ago but its lava and debris had piled up on its peak. He said rescue teams have been deployed to the scene. Makeshift tents as well as medical and food supplies have also been provided for residents who lost their homes in the disaster, which struck at 5:30 p.m. Regent Amri Darwis said the area was not yet safe due to heavy rain. | | | | |
