Several people jumped out of windows to escape the flames, with fatal consquences for a 48-year-old Spaniard and a 28-year-old Brazilian. Altogether, seventeen people were injured, three of them seriously. Most of the injured have been treated for smoke inhalation and since released from hospital, but one person is in a very serious condition in the Hospital General de Cataluña, in Barcelona, with multiple contusions and brain and liver haemorrages. Another person has been taken to the burns unit at Barcelona's Val d'Hebron hospital with third degree burns to 30% of his body. The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
