2010-02-24 17:45:11 - Flood - Spain EDIS CODE: FL-20100224-25057-ESP Date & Time: 2010-02-24 17:45:11 [UTC] Area: Spain, MultiProvinces, Provinces of Córdoba, Jaén and Sevilla, Damage level: Moderate (Level 2) Not confirmed information! Description: Some 1,500 people in the provinces of Córdoba, Jaén and Sevilla have been evacuated from their homes in the past few hours, as storms continue to batter the region and river levels continue to rise. The heavy rains are still causing the river Guadalquivir to rise and the 32 reservoirs that empty into it have reached maximum capacity. In these three provinces alone, the emergency services have so far received 2,404 calls and have had to deal with 380 separate incidents as a result of the flooding. Twenty roads in the region are still closed because of the high water levels, ten of them in Córdoba, Jaén and Sevilla, although the regional government in Andalucia has stated that there has been a lot less damage to the infrastructure this time than was seen during the storms at the end of December/beginning of January. The Spanish met office forecasts that the rain will ease off over the coming days, but the level II emergency plan will remain in place until the precipitation stops altogether.
