Description: Close to 90,000 customers of Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corporation lost power as a result of this latest snowstorm to hit the region. It could take several days for power to be restored to everyone. The most severe areas impacted by electric outages were Greene, Ulster, northern Dutchess and Albany counties. Heavy snow on trees and wires caused the power outages. At least six major transmission lines have been taken off line by the storm, said company Vice President Denise VanBuren. Restoration efforts are expected to be hampered by road and weather conditions and the forecast for a second storm front that could cause additional customers to lose power in the next couple of days. Central Hudson is predicting full restoration of service will take several days to complete. In Orange and Rockland Utilities’ territory, according to that company’s website, less than 2,000 people were without power in portions of Rockland and southern and north central Orange County.
