Description:

Emergency crews are concentrating their efforts on rural properties in central northern New South Wales with the areas of Brewarrina and Narrabri being declared natural disasters. The announcement by Premier Kristina Keneally will allow financial assistance to get to flood-affected communities. On Wednesday there were concerns that people in the far northeastern townships of Thora and Darkwood would be cut off but flooding in the Upper Bellinger River remained minor. During the week SES crews were also focused on central New South Wales where towns including Dubbo and Coonamble were drenched. Dirt roads across large swathes of the area became impassable and a section of train line between Dubbo and Gilgandra was reportedly washed away. Rain is now most likely to fall in and around the towns of Bourke and Wanaaring, to the west of Bourke. Flood warnings still apply to the Bellinger river, near Coffs Harbour, the MacIntyre River, near Boggabilla, the Castlereagh River, near Coonamble, the Macquarie River, Macquarie, near Warren, and the Bogan River, near Nyngan. Culgoa and Bokhara Rivers, near Goodwin, are also affected.
