Description: An Air Force Academy T-34 training plane carrying two men went missing during a training mission in Kaohsiung County, the air force said yesterday. The plane disappeared off the radar around 1:40 p.m., after taking off from the Air Force Academy at 1:05 p.m. At the time, the plane was thought to be flying above Namahsia, a mountainous area which gained notoriety for mudslides during last August's Typhoon Morakot. The two people on board were Jao Chien-pao, 48, a pilot from Tucheng in Taipei County with about 4,235 hours in flying experience, and Second Lieutenant Chen Tse-yu, 25, from Taichung, with only 110 hours of flying behind him. Jao graduated in 1985 and was appointed as a flying teacher after retiring from the Academy last year, the air force said. Chen was scheduled to graduate later this year.
