Description:

Three children have died over the last three days in a case of suspected food poisoning. On Thursday, the Khandke brothers Nilesh (14) and Shailesh (12) passed away. And on Saturday, three-year-old Aditya Latkar, whose family had come for the last rites, too succumbed after eating 'poha' that was served. Fifteen others too have been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital after falling sick. Two other relatives Prabhuj Nishane and his wife Satyaphula, who had left after consuming poha, fell unconscious in the train while returning home. Passengers stopped the train and rushed them to a private hospital at Kamptee. Interestingly, nothing happened to Aditya's parents, Sangeeta and Neelkant Latkar, who too had consumed the poha. However, their older son Sahil (6) is among those who have been admitted, and doctors say that his condition is critical. Monali, the elder sister of Nilesh and Shailesh, had prepared the poha. "All the required ingredients were purchased on the same day from a shop close to our house. Only the oil used was three-days-old, which my mother (Sunita) bought on Thursday," she said. The children's father Shivchand, who is serving life imprisonment for murder, was released on parole for the last rites.
