WARNING !!! Number of death person(s): 5 Number of Infected person(s): 12 Not confirmed information! Description: Five children died and dozens hospitalised due to outbreak of measles in Kaza Madakhel village of Dattakhel tehsil in North Waziristan Saturday. Kaza Madakhel villagers criticised their elected representative, MNA Kamran Khan, for failure to solve the electorate's basic problems. Child specialists at the ill-equipped Agency Headquarters Hospital in Miramshah said five children had died due to lack of vaccines in the entire North Waziristan tribal region for the past several months. Two child specialists at Miramshah hospital - Dr Ali Mohammad and Dr Mohammad Ayaz - told The News that they had informed officials at the Fata Secretariat in Peshawar about lack of vaccines and effects of the disease on kids. Dr Ayaz said five children have been died before they could be shifted to the hospital and feared many others might die if vaccines were not provided to them. He said dozens of other children suffering from measles belonging to the same area had been shifted to the public sector Miramshah Hospital as well as private health centres. He said condition of some of the children was critical as there were no vaccines. Dr Ali Mohammad said officials of the Health Department at the Fata Secretariat had told him that they would send vaccines to Waziristan if supplies were received from Islamabad. Two tribesmen, Kazim and Haji Mamed Khan, who were among the several tribesmen who brought their sick kids from the border village of Kaza Madakhel in Dattakhel tehsil, said many children could not be shifted to Miramshah for treatment due to curfew on Saturday. The tribesmen accused their lone elected representative from North Waziristan, Kamran Khan, of his failure to work for solution of their problems. Tribal elder Malik Said Mali said that many children were still lying at their homes in Dattakhel tehsil due to lack of vehicles and curfew on the road between Miramshah and Dattakhel. He demanded of the NWFP governor to take note of hardships of the children and send special teams of doctors to the affected areas to save lives of the ailing children.
