Description:

The female driver, who was covered in cuts and blood, was helped from the No141 after it careered into the railings, hit a set of traffic lights before coming to a halt dangling over steps down to the entrance of Monument tube. The bus missed one pedestrian by inches. Passengers were taken into a nearby office block where they were treated for shock and minor injuries. One eyewitness, Georgia Beardman, 21, said: "We heard this massive scraping sound, like the pavement was moving. "A girl nearly got hit as she crossed the road. It was so lucky she didn't, it missed her by inches. She collapsed in a heap and was absolutely hysterical - I think she was taken to hospital for shock. "I came out to have a look and I saw the traffic lights smashed into the windscreen. The driver was very lucky she was not killed." An London Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.20am to reports of a collision at Monument station involving a bus. "We sent two ambulance crews, a patients' response vehicle and two duty officers. "Our staff treated eleven patients for minor injuries. They were a mixture of passengers and pedestrians. Five of them were taken to Royal London Hospital and the other six to St Thomas' Hospital."
