2009-12-25 04:54:06 - Extreme Weather - USA EDIS CODE: ST-20091225-24303-USA Date & Time: 2009-12-25 04:54:06 [UTC] Area: USA, State of Texas, , San Antonio Damage level: Moderate (Level 2) Not confirmed information! Description: Although the weather in San Antonio remained cool and windy, but otherwise pleasant, midday Thursday, holiday travelers still need to arrive especially early for flights. Windy weather caused a power outage in Terminal 1 at San Antonio International Airport at midday Thursday. Authorities said the power was knocked out by high winds but restored within about an hour. It mirrored a similar situation at Houston's Hobby Airport. Officials there said the airport was without power from 4 to 7:30 a.m. due to overnight storms. In Houston, there were no flight delays, but there were delays with processing passengers. The generators did not restore power for the ticket counters or jet bridges. The backup was caused after tickets had to be processed manually. Meanwhile, a snowstorm was headed into the Dallas-Fort Worth area Thursday afternoon, bringing with it the need to de-ice planes. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth are two major hubs for flights heading out of San Antonio, so plan accordingly by arriving early to the San Antonio Airport today to make sure you are checked in and ready to go for your flight.
