WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Senate approved President Barack Obama's landmark healthcare overhaul on Thursday, backing sweeping changes in the medical insurance market and new coverage for tens of millions of uninsured Americans.

Afghan Taliban issue video of captive U.S. soldier

KABUL (Reuters) - The Afghan Taliban on Friday issued a new video tape of a U.S. soldier captured this summer, which was condemned by the U.S. military as propaganda, and the decision to release it on Christmas day as cruel.

Military to scrap pregnancy punishment

Suicide car bomb kills 8 in Afghan south

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - A suicide car bomber killed eight Afghan civilians on Thursday when he detonated his explosives outside a guest house frequented by foreigners in southern Kandahar city, a police official said.
