Two people were swept away by raging floods that have hit Naivasha and its environs. The two middle aged men crossing River Kilimo when they drowned and their bodies were retrieved five hours later. These are the first deaths in the district related to flooding. Earlier, torrential rains that hit the area for over four hours had paralyzed operations as the river swelled up. According to Naivasha DC Mohamed Birik, the identity of the duo was yet to be established. He said that the bodies could have been washed from upstream on the Naivasha-Njoro border. "These are the first deaths in the district related to flooding and we have sent officers on the ground to establish their identity," At the same time, Birik said that the government would be relocating to higher grounds families whose houses were washed by floods in Moi Ndabi. Speaking in his office, Birik added that they were also making efforts to assist the affected families with food. "We are aware of the situation and we are making every effort to make sure that the families don't sleep in the cold again," He however questioned how the families found themselves in the flood prone area as the government had set aside the land for tree planting. According to him, all families on the land had been relocated to higher grounds three years ago due to the floods. "I fail to understand what these families were doing on the parcel of land as its supposed to be turned into a forest due to the perennial floods," On Tuesday, over forty families were displaced by floods caused by the ongoing rains that have hit the area in the last one week. Some of the families were forced to spend the night
