On 2010-02-26 at 04:10:52 [UTC]

Event: Snow Storm
Location: United Kingdom Scotland Scotland-wide

Situation:

Around 5,000 homes in Perthshire, Scotland, are without power after heavy snowfalls brought down electricity lines. p to 2ft of snow came down overnight into Thursday and many roads are impassable. More snow and ice is predicted on Friday, with the weather situation set to improve at the weekend. During Thursday, about 20,000 properties were without electricity - but engineers have managed to bring that figure down to 5,000. Areas affected include parts of Auchterarder, Blackford, Gleneagles, Kinross, Milnathort, Crieff, and Sheriffmuir. Perth and Kinross Council have opened a number of reception centres in those areas so residents without electricity can be provided with heat, light, and hot drinks. The centres are at Pitlochry High School, Kinross Fire Station Crieff Fire Station, Perth Grammar School and Auchterarder Community School. People are being advised to go to there if they have concerns about the lack of power in their homes.
