Description: Extreme weather conditions have led to 18 flights from the Canary Islands being cancelled. Travellers have been left grounded in the airports of La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro due to gale-force winds and rain. Two of the flights called off are run by Air Berlin and Iberia. The Air Berlin craft attempted to land in the airport of Tenerife instead of its intended destination, La Palma, but was unable to do so and had to return to the mainland. So far, however, no other flights in the Canary Islands are said to have been affected, although some delays are expected.
