Chairman of Agsu Emergency Situations Commission Igbal Mikayilov said the local bureau that the landslide in Sangalan, Kalva, Surakhany, Girrar and Guzay villages was extending day-by-day. “The houses and social facilities in Sangalan and Kalva villages were damaged most. The experts of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry and Ministry of Emergency Situations viewed the area. It was noted that the villages were indeed in the dangerous zone, it was recommended to resettle people. The people were warned about the dangerous situation. All the houses, one secondary school and feldsher-obstetric center in Sangalan village are in danger of collapse. It is dangerous to live in the landslide zone. The ground has been split 30-40cm, 5-10cm splits appeared in the houses. The soil, on which the village is situated, is sliding towards the river by half a meter every day. It is more expedient to resettle the whole village and build new houses in another area. 10 out of 38 families have already moved to their relatives in other villages. 28 families are still living there,” he said. Igbal Mikayilov said landslide caused emergency conditions of 35 out of 80 houses and split buildings of cultural center and chemists shop in Kalva village. Residents of four most damaged houses were evacuated and temporarily settled in the houses of their relatives in nearby village. “The landslide caused emergency conditions in four houses more in the villages of Surakhani, Girgar and Guzay. Theses residential points located in a landslide zone near Mughanli-Ismayilli highway surrounded by the mountains on three sides. The landslide moves from the mountains towards Aghsu River. Winter-spring seasonal rains intensified the landslide, but for the first time the disaster covered so large area and seriously damaged residential buildings and social facilities. Local authorities said social facilities would be allocated for the evacuated people in nearby villages and in the center of the region. They said it needed to wait for the decision of the Ministry of Emergency Situations”. The landslide area is located near the Mughanli-Ismayilli highway.
