Description: At least 12 children were killed after a fire broke out overnight in a school hostel in India's northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, police said Thursday. About 60 students were sleeping when the blaze, which spread from an oil lamp, gutted the hostel made of bamboo and straw in Palin town, about 260 km (161 miles) north of state capital Itanagar. "Eight others are in a serious condition," Remu Kemkei, a senior police officer, said by telephone. He said by the time the children woke up, the fire had engulfed some of the rooms.
