Description: Heavy rains and floods have caused a spike of dengue fever cases in Bekasi, West Java, with around 90 patients admitted with the virus during the first two weeks this month. Bekasi health agency head Retni Yonti said that a patient had died after suffering a combination of dengue fever and another unidentified illness. Some 170 dengue fever cases were reported in January, a significant increase compared to the 30-cases-per-month through the June-December period at the end of last year, she added. All community health centers in Bekasi have been supplied with medicine to counter the mosquito-transmitted illness, said Retni. “Each health center has a laboratory facility to help the medical officers identify the fever and determine suitable treatment,” she added.
