Description: Temperatures in Malta yesterday soared unusually high for this time of year, as the Meteorological Office reported a temperature of 24.1 degrees Celsius. This was the second highest temperature for this time of year, since 18 February 1960, when the temperature recorded at Luqa Airport reached 26.7 degrees Celsius. The Met Office reported that yesterday’s weather condition was brought about by the occurrence of a short-lived thermal ridge over the central Mediterranean, coupled with cloudless skies and southerly winds. It is expected that somewhat similar conditions, albeit cloudier ones, will persist today. The winds are expected to become strong from the northwest later on in the day on Saturday, with a forecast maximum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius.
