Number of Deads: 25 person(s)

Situation:

A head-on collision between two trains outside the Belgian capital during the morning rush hour on Monday left an unknown number of passengers dead and injured, local news accounts said. Belgian media reported that the crash at Buizingen near Halle, about 10 miles southwest of Brussels, had left 20 people dead, citing the local mayor, Dirk Pieters. Officials of Belgian National Railways told VRT radio that 25 people were killed. However, police officials at Halle were unable to confirm either figure, saying that they were concentrating on conducting an evacuation of the area and dealing with injured passengers. High-speed train services, including those between Brussels and Paris, were blocked by the crash which happened at about 8:30 a.m.. The cause of the accident was not immediately clear and there was no confirmation of reports that a third train had become involved in the pile-up.
