Description: Several people were hurt in an avalanche in southwestern Colorado on Thursday afternoon, but the extent of the injuries is still unclear. The Ouray Mountain Search and Rescue team says the avalanche happened just outside the town of Ridgway in an area called Elk Meadows. Numerous agencies are responding, but rescuers can only get to the area by snowmobile or skis. 9NEWS is only being told that people were injured, and it is unclear if any one is trapped by the snow.
