Situation Update No. 1 Posted:2010-02-14, 17:53:53 [UTC] Ref.no.: FL-20100214-24934-BGR Situation Update No. 1 On 2010-02-15 at 19:08:53 [UTC] Event: Flood Location: Bulgaria Yambol Province Tundzha River Situation: Torrential rain and heavy flooding hit several regions in Greece and Bulgaria Monday, causing power outages and widespread damage to towns. Bulgaria was also hit by heavy rain and snowstorms, which caused flooding, snarled traffic and led to power outages, the national radio said Monday. In Elchovo in south-eastern Bulgaria, the river Tundzha rose above its banks, flooding the town park and the market. The border crossing Kapitan Andreevo, a major gateway to Turkey, was closed after the river Maritsa flooded it, and traffic had to be re-directed. Snowstorms hit the south of the country, cutting the power supply to more than 70 villages.
