Description: Torrential rain and heavy flooding hit several regions in Greece and Bulgaria Monday, causing power outages and widespread damage to towns. Officials called a state of emergency in north-eastern Greece as the Evros river, which borders Turkey, flooded more than 14,000 hectares of farmland. Several villages in the area of the port city of Alexandroupolis were reported flooded after two days of torrential rain, causing extensive damage to homes and vehicles. Dozens of animals ended up drowning and the country's national railway service was disrupted, state radio announced.
