Description: Thieves may have gotten more than they bargained for after stealing a nuclear density probe used to obtain moisture data on soil. The device, which was in a red fiberglass case with radioactive stickers on the exterior, was reported stolen from a construction site in the 100 block of Smoke Tree in Hesperia at 7:18 a.m. on Feb. 16. Inside the case was the probe, hammer, metal plate and plastic box. The device contains radioactive capsules. If removed from the case, the probe can cause radiation burns, according to the Hesperia Police Station. The last four serial numbers of the probe, which is model No. MC3, are 6969.
