Situation Update No. 1 Posted:2010-03-26, 20:45:20 [UTC] Ref.no.: HZ-20100326-25473-USA Situation Update No. 1 On 2010-03-27 at 04:06:14 [UTC] Event: HAZMAT Location: USA State of Iowa West Liberty Foods West Liberty Number of Injured: 9 person(s) Situation: Officials at a meat processor in West Liberty have evacuated the plant after an apparent anhydrous ammonia leak. Police say the leak, which was reported about 11 a.m. Friday at West Liberty Foods, injured at least nine workers. Although initial information was sketchy, the Muscatine Fire Department, West Liberty Ambulance, West Liberty Police, and many other first responders were at the scene. Director Steve Spenler of Johnson County Ambulance says ambulance crews were taking the injured to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, but he did not have additional information.
