Description:

Rain and thunderstorms have led to flash flooding in northeastern New South Wales and southeast Queensland. Some have had their heaviest rain in at least six months and heaviest December rain on record, including Muirne on the NSW Northern Tablelands which picked up 111mm in the 24 hours to 9am Sunday. Warwick, on the Queensland Darling Downs received a 24-hour total of 57mm, a 12 month high and a December record. Since 9am Sunday the heaviest falls were on the coast side of the ranges, where Googengerry gained 90mm and Evans Head and Yamba picked up more than 50mm each. Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast were hit by torrential downpours in the afternoon as big thunderstorms rolled across the region. Brisbane CBD had 33mm of rain including 13mm in 10 minutes. Kelly on the Sunshine Coast got just under 10mm in 10 minutes. Storms will fire up again later today due to lingering moist, unstable air combining with afternoon heat. As of 8am Monday morning, Toolara had received 52mm, Double Island 50.2mm, Gladstone 34.6mm, and Samuel Hill 32.8mm.
