Description:

A Russian ministry spokesman said Sunday an oil-carrying Moldovan ship broke in two in the Black Sea due to having been worn out. The ship broke during a storm near Sochi, a Russian resort. The ship's 13 crew members were rescued. The Aras-1 ship, carrying 37 tons of diesel fuel, was tossed by waves onto a beach. "There has been no oil spill from the ship so far. Now we are solving the problem of pumping diesel fuel with the help of a floating crane. The ship's hull is thin like foil. In Russia, we would not have allowed a vessel in such a condition to make a voyage," Nikolai Shustov, the spokesman, said. The ship has been in operation for an estimated 30 years, which is the reason it was shipwrecked, Shustov said.
