Description:

A severe thunderstorm in the Jalan Klang Lama area yesterday evening caused several trees to be uprooted, damaging about 10 cars. The cars were parked at the parking area of Block A and B of the Sri Rempah Flats at Lorong Jugra, off Jalan Klang Lama. Taman Desa Fire and Rescue Department senior officer M. Kannan said no casualties were reported. He said the department received a distress call at 6.11pm and two fire engines with 12 firemen rushed to the scene. A resident, identified only as Wong, 59, said she was babysitting in the flat when the thunderstorm broke. One of the damaged cars, a Satria Neo, belonged to her daughter. “She had parked the car there at about 3pm,” she added. The trees had fallen onto the roof of the cars and firemen had to saw off the branches and remove the debris. Meanwhile, in Cheras, one man died while another was seriously injured when the motorbike they were riding on hit a car parked along the roadside. The car owner was helping a man who was injured in an earlier accident and had parked his car there. The unidentified victim lost control of his motorbike before crashing into the car in the 11pm incident yesterday.
