Description:

A bus carrying 37 passengers, including 28 children who were returning from a taekwondo competition in Serbia, caught fire this morning near Brodski Stupnik, Croatia, on the Belgrade-Zagreb highway. One girl was injured and the bus was burnt completely. According to the Tanjug news agency, the passengers saw the smoke on the bus and called on the driver to stop the vehicle, after which children and other passengers managed to run out. One girl fell while trying to get out of the bus, injured her hand, and was then taken to a hospital in Slavonski Brod. The other passengers were taken to Zagreb by another bus. The bus reportedly burnt completely within ten minutes. The owner of the Zagreb company Deni Bus, which owned the vehicle that caught fire, has expressed his shock over the accident for the Croatian web portal Index. He said he spoke with the bus driver, who told him that they heard that something had begun to smoke. "We thought it was tires. We stopped and went to have a look. We saw the smoke and smelled a strange odor, I immediately returned to the bus, opened all the doors and told everyone to get out," Tanjug news agency quoted one of the drivers as saying. A police investigation into the incident is reportedly ongoing.
